Spouse Can’t Make You Pay For MBA Earned Before Marriage
Q: My spouse is seeking reimbursement for a portion of the tuition for his MBA. He went full time and paid in full 2 yrs before we even knew each other. However, he is claiming that it “improved” our lifestyle and wants me to pay reimbursement. Does he have a claim?
A:You do not owe your husband for educational expenses he paid for his education before you got married, but to the extent that he paid for education during the marriage with community property money, and you were married less than ten years, he may owe YOU money.
